[Tissington Hal] [Tissington.]

Tissington is close to the southern end of Dovedale off the main Ashbourne to Buxton road. The village consists of a Tudor Hall, Church and cottages with a village pond. There was a battle between the Parliamentarians and Royalists here. The tradition of well dressing began here as long ago as 1350 and is still held today. There are five wells and during the plague the villages believed the purity of the waters saved them.
The Fitzherberts have lived at the Hall for around 500 years and the Church contains many monuments to them. The Church register dates from the seventeenth century.
